FANUC LR Mate 200iD: Small Robot, Wide Range of Uses

The FANUC LR Mate 200iD is FANUC's small, light robot. The standard 200iD, the 200iD/7L and the 200iD/7H are each rated for 7 kg. The standard arm and the 7H reach 717 mm, and the 7L long arm reaches 911 mm. Ours run on R-30iB family controllers. It is a common pick for machine tending, assembly and pick and place.

Why the LR Mate Gets Used Everywhere

The arm itself weighs about 25 kg according to the LR Mate 200iD data sheet, so it does not need a big foundation. You can put it on a stand next to a lathe, on a bench at an assembly station, or inside a small guarded cell. The data sheet lists repeatability of 0.02 mm, which is tight enough for most small part work.

Because it is small, it is also easy to move to another job later. It is one of the deepest stocks in our used FANUC robots inventory.

The 200iD Versions

LR Mate 200iD. The standard arm: 7 kg, 717 mm. We have LR Mate 200iD robots on the R-30iB from 2015 to 2018.

LR Mate 200iD/7L. The long arm. Same 7 kg payload, 911 mm of reach and about 27 kg of arm weight per the LR Mate 200iD/7L data sheet. Pick this one when the robot has to reach into a machine door or across a wider fixture. Our LR Mate 200iD/7L stock runs on both the R-30iB and the R-30iB Plus, and we also have an un-used LR Mate 200iD/7L on the R-30iB Compact Plus.

LR Mate 200iD/7H. A variant with 7 kg and 717 mm, built for a different motion setup than the standard arm. Check the LR Mate 200iD/7H data sheet to confirm it fits your motion before you buy. Our LR Mate 200iD/7H robots are 2013 units on the R-30iB.

Older LR Mates: 200iB and 200iC

You will still find the older generations running in plants. The LR Mate 200iB carries 5 kg with 700 mm of reach. The LR Mate 200iC also carries 5 kg, reaches 704 mm and weighs about 27 kg. The 200iD added payload over both. If you already run 200iC robots on the R-30iA, our LR Mate 200iC robot cell may be the easier fit for your floor.

Jobs the LR Mate Does Well

  • Machine tending. Loading and unloading small parts from lathes and mills. Our post on machine tending robots covers how these cells are laid out.
  • Assembly. Pressing, fastening and placing small components. See robotic assembly applications.
  • Pick and place. Moving parts between conveyors, trays and fixtures. Pair it with robot vision when parts do not arrive in the same spot every time.
  • Dispensing. Running a bead of sealant or adhesive on small parts. Our post on dispensing robots has more.

What to Check on a Used LR Mate

  • Controller. The R-30iB, R-30iB Plus and R-30iB Compact Plus are all in our stock. If your plant already runs one of these, match it. Our write up on the FANUC R-30iB Plus controller covers the Plus version.
  • Gripper wiring. The EE connector on the arm is where end of arm tooling I/O ties in. Our post on the FANUC EE connection explains it. Plan your end of arm tooling around it.
  • Pendant and cables. Make sure the teach pendant and the cables between the arm and the controller come with the robot. Cables on a small robot are easy to overlook until the unit shows up without them. If you need a spare, we stock FANUC robot cable sets.
  • Payload with tooling. On a 7 kg robot the gripper can be half the budget. Weigh the gripper and the heaviest part together. Leave margin for fingers, vacuum cups or a tool changer you may add later.
  • Cell or bare arm. A complete cell can save build time. Guarding, fixturing and wiring are often already done, and you can rework them for your part. Our LR Mate 200iD robot cell runs on the R-30iB.
  • Freight. Small robots are easy to ship. Everything goes FOB Imlay City, Michigan, and the buyer arranges freight.

Step Up Options

If 7 kg is not enough, the next sizes up in our stock are the FANUC M-10iA/12S, rated 12 kg with 1,098 mm of reach, and the FANUC M-20iB/25, rated 25 kg with 1,853 mm.
