Used FANUC Robots For Sale: A Buyer's Guide

A used FANUC robot gets you a proven arm with parts and programmers that are easy to find. Picking the right one comes down to payload, reach, the controller it runs on and what ships with it. We stock most FANUC families on our floor in Imlay City, Michigan, from the LR Mate bench robot up to the M-2000.

Why Plants Buy Used FANUC

A lot of North American plants standardized on FANUC years ago. That means maintenance techs and programmers who know the teach pendant are not hard to hire, and spare parts are easy to source. It is also why our used FANUC robots category is the biggest part of our inventory. If you want a unit that never went into production, check our un-used FANUC robots and the new FANUC robots we have on hand.

Small Robots: LR Mate, M-10, M-20, Delta and SCARA

For machine tending, small assembly and light pick and place, the FANUC LR Mate 200iD/7L is one of the deepest stocks we carry. It handles 7 kg with 911 mm of reach. The standard LR Mate 200iD carries the same 7 kg on a shorter 717 mm arm. Both are light enough to bolt to a stand next to the machine they serve.

One size up, the M-10 and M-20 arms cover most medium duty handling. We usually have several FANUC M-20iA/35M robots on the floor, rated 35 kg with 1,813 mm of reach, along with the FANUC M-20iB/25 and the newer M-20iD/25, some of which are un-used. These are common picks for machine tending robots loading CNC machines.

For fast picking off a conveyor, look at the FANUC M-3iA delta robot, or the FANUC SR-20iA SCARA robot, which is listed as never used and runs on the R-30iB Plus.

Mid Size Robots: M-710, R-1000 and Arc Mate

The M-710 line sits between the M-20 and the R-2000. The FANUC M-710iC/50 carries 50 kg with 2,050 mm of reach and gets used for heavier handling and material removal work. The R-1000iA/80F and R-1000iA/100F are compact arms with 2,230 mm of reach, a good choice when an R-2000 is more robot than the job needs and floor space is tight.

The Arc Mate is FANUC's arc welding robot. Our Arc Mate 100iC/6L stock runs on the R-30iB, and the Arc Mate 120iD runs on the R-30iB Plus. If you are setting up a welding cell, our post on MIG welding robots is a good place to start.

Heavy Payload: R-2000, M-900, M-410 and M-2000

The R-2000 is the arm most people picture for robotic spot welding and heavy handling. Our FANUC R-2000 series guide covers the models, the specs and what to check before you buy.

The M-900 picks up where most R-2000 models leave off. We carry a deep stock of the FANUC M-900iA/260L, the FANUC M-900iA/350 and the FANUC M-900iA/400L. For end of line work, the M-410iB/700 palletizing robot carries 700 kg. For very heavy parts, the FANUC M-2000iA/900L handles 900 kg with 4,683 mm of reach.

What to Check on Any Used FANUC

  • Controller. The controller decides what software and options you can run. Older arms in our stock run on the R-J3iB controller, and most of the newest ship on the R-30iB Plus controller. If you can, match what your plant already runs.
  • Pendant and cables. Confirm the teach pendant and the robot to controller cables come with the unit. A missing pendant or cable set adds cost and lead time to the start of a project, so ask up front.
  • Past application. A robot that came off a spot line may carry a dress pack and welding software. A handling robot may be set up for a gripper. Ask what the unit did in its last plant. Tooling and options from a prior job can save you work if they match yours, or need to come off if they do not.
  • I/O. Know how the robot will talk to your PLC before it shows up. Our post on industrial robot I/O covers the basics.
  • Spare parts. Servo motors, amplifiers and I/O modules are in our FANUC robot parts inventory.
  • Freight and budget. Everything ships FOB Imlay City, Michigan, and the buyer arranges freight, so plan for the weight of the arm plus the controller. If you need to spread out the cost, look at our equipment financing options.
