Motoman EA Series Arc Welding Robots: EA1400N and EA1900N

The Motoman EA1400N and EA1900N are Yaskawa arc welding robots built to carry a MIG torch. The units we stock run on the NX100 controller. The EA1400N suits smaller parts and tighter cells, and the EA1900N is the longer reaching arm for bigger weldments. We have both on our floor in Imlay City, Michigan.

What the EA Robots Are Built For

The EA line was made for arc welding, and most used EA robots come out of MIG welding cells. If you are setting up your first cell, start with our write ups on arc welding robots and robotic MIG welding. Both are a good place to start.

The same class of arm also shows up on MAG welding jobs, and some shops run robotic TIG welding on lighter arc robots. The robot does not care much which process is on the end of the arm. The welding package, the fixture and the programming decide what the cell can do.

EA1400N or EA1900N

The two models differ mainly in reach. We are not going to quote reach numbers here, because we do not have EA data sheets on our blog. The listing and the unit itself are the place to check. As a rule:

  • EA1400N. The shorter arm. A good fit for small and medium parts on a table or a small positioner, where the robot does not have to stretch.
  • EA1900N. The longer arm. Pick it when parts are bigger, when you run a two station layout and want one robot to cover both sides, or when the torch has to reach around a tall fixture.

If you are not sure which one your parts need, send us the part size and we will point you to the units worth a look. Our full brand stock is on the used Yaskawa Motoman robots page.

What Comes With a Used Welding Robot

Read each listing closely. A bare robot and controller is a very different purchase from a working cell. One of our EA1400N listings is titled as a MIG welding cell, and the other as both a cell and a robot. Ask what is actually included:

The NX100 Controller

The NX100 is an older Motoman controller. It came before the DX100, DX200 and today's YRC1000. That does not make it a bad buy. Plenty of NX100 welding cells are still running. It does mean you should plan for the software and pendant that came with it, rather than expecting current features. If you want a newer Motoman arc robot for comparison, our Motoman AR2010 data sheet shows a current model on the YRC1000.

Other Welding Robots to Compare

If your plant runs FANUC, the FANUC Arc Mate 100iC carries 10 kg with 1,420 mm of reach, and the FANUC Arc Mate 100iC/6L carries 6 kg with 1,632 mm of reach. We carry FANUC weld cells, KUKA arc robots and an ABB MIG cell too, all in the list below, plus more in our used welding equipment category.
