YASKAWA MOTOMAN ROBOTS

Motoman Controllers: NX100, DX100, DX200, YRC1000 and FS100

Motoman Controllers: NX100, DX100, DX200, YRC1000 and FS100

Yaskawa Motoman controllers run in this order from oldest to newest: NX100, DX100, DX200 and YRC1000. The FS100 is a separate compact controller for small robots. On a used Motoman, the controller decides the software, the pendant and how the robot ties into your line, so match it to the arm on the listing before you buy.

Why the Controller Matters

The arm is iron, motors and reducers. The controller is everything else: the motion software, the safety circuits, the servo amplifiers that drive each axis, and the industrial robot I/O that talks to your PLC, fixtures and sensors. Two arms of the same model on different controller generations can be very different robots to live with.

The arm and controller are built as a pair. When you buy a used Motoman, buy them together and confirm the teach pendant and the robot connection cables that join them are included. Everything we have in the brand is on our used Yaskawa Motoman robots page.

NX100

The NX100 is the oldest of the controllers covered here. A lot of our Motoman stock is NX100 era, mostly 2005 to 2008 units, including the EA welding robots. NX100 robots are a sensible buy when you are replacing a robot in a cell that already runs NX100, or building a simple cell where you do not need current software. The EA units in that group are arc welding robots, the type used on MIG welding robots lines.

DX100

The DX100 followed the NX100. Our page for other used Motoman robots currently lists units on DX100 and DX200 controllers, including an MPL160II palletizer, a model built for palletizing robots work.

DX200

The DX200 came next. Our MH50-II, a 50 kg payload robot with 2,061 mm of reach, ships on a DX200, and we have a 2016 DX200 unit as well. The MH50-II size is a common choice for material handling robots and machine tending robots jobs.

YRC1000

The YRC1000 is Yaskawa's current controller and the one paired with the GP series. Our Motoman GP280L data sheet and Motoman AR2010 data sheet both list it. Our GP25 and GP280L listings do not name the controller, so ask us to confirm exactly what ships with each unit.

FS100

The FS100 is Motoman's compact controller for small robots. It sits apart from the main cabinet line. Our MH5F, a 5 kg class robot, ships on an FS100. Small arms like this get used for pick and place, robotic assembly and light parts transfer robots work.

What to Check on a Used Motoman Controller

  • Model match. Confirm the controller listed is the one that ran with that arm. The listing title tells you what we have paired.
  • Pendant. Make sure the teach pendant comes with it, and that it matches the controller generation.
  • Cables. Check cable length for your layout and look over the connectors. Our post on robot cable management is worth a read.
  • Incoming power. Confirm the voltage the cabinet needs matches what you have at the cell.
  • I/O and communication. Know what your PLC expects before the robot arrives, not after.
  • Spare parts. Our robot parts and accessories inventory is mostly other brands, so ask us before you count on a Motoman spare.

Running FANUC Too?

A lot of plants run Motoman and FANUC side by side. If you are sorting out FANUC cabinets as well, our posts cover the FANUC RJ3 controller, the FANUC R-J3iB controller, the FANUC R-30iB controller and the FANUC R-30iB Plus controller.
