Kawasaki's RS series covers its small and mid size six axis robots, and the model name tells you the payload. An RS007L carries 7 kg, an RS010L carries 10 kg and an RS020N is a 20 kg class arm. The letter after the number marks the arm version. Here is how the RS models compare, using our data sheets.
Reading an RS Model Number
The digits after RS are the rated payload in kilograms. The letter after that is the arm version. Line up the data sheets and the pattern is easy to see: the Kawasaki RS007N reaches 730 mm while the RS007L reaches 930 mm. The Kawasaki RS010N reaches 1,450 mm while the RS010L reaches 1,925 mm. Same payload, longer arm. The Kawasaki RS015X is the long reach arm of the group at 3,150 mm.
Everything in stock from the line is on our used Kawasaki robots page, and our post on Kawasaki robot history covers where the company came from.
Small RS Arms: 3 to 7 kg
These are bench and small cell robots for light parts. They fit robot assembly, small part parts transfer and pick and place with a camera.
- RS003N: 3 kg payload, 620 mm reach
- RS005N: 5 kg payload, 705 mm reach
- RS005L: 5 kg payload, 903 mm reach
- RS006L: 6 kg payload, 1,650 mm reach
- RS007L: 7 kg payload, 930 mm reach
The RS007L is the small arm we stock. Our units run on F60, with one listed as F60F.
Mid Range: 10 to 30 kg
This range covers a lot of general purpose work: loading machines, moving parts between stations and running a gripper with some weight to it. Our machine tending robots and material handling robots posts cover how those cells are laid out.
- RS010N: 10 kg payload, 1,450 mm reach
- RS010L: 10 kg payload, 1,925 mm reach
- RS013N: 13 kg payload, 1,460 mm reach
- RS015X: 15 kg payload, 3,150 mm reach
- RS020N: 20 kg class
- RS025N: 25 kg payload, 1,885 mm reach
- RS030N: 30 kg payload, 2,100 mm reach
We stock the RS010L, RS015X, RS020N and RS030N in this range. The never used RS010L is one of our deepest Kawasaki stocks. If you need long reach with a light load, compare the RS010L against the RS015X before you settle on a bigger arm.
Larger RS Arms: RS050N and RS080N
Above 30 kg the RS line keeps going. The Kawasaki RS050N carries 50 kg and the Kawasaki RS080N carries 80 kg, both with 2,100 mm of reach. Past that you move into Kawasaki's BX and other large arms, built for heavy handling and palletizing robots work.
Picking the Right Size
Start with the weight on the end of the arm, not just the part. Add the gripper, any robotic quick change tooling, the hoses and the part together, then pick an arm rated above that total. A heavy gripper on a long reach arm eats into payload fast. Our notes on end of arm tooling cover what goes into that weight.
Then lay out the cell and measure the farthest point the robot has to reach. Do not pay for reach you will never use, since a shorter arm on the same payload is usually lighter and easier to fit into a tight spot. Check the wrist load ratings too, because what an arm carries depends on how far out the load sits from the wrist. A longer arm also means a longer dress pack, so plan your robot cable management early.
Controllers You Will See
In our stock, the RS007L runs on F60 (one 2019 unit is listed with an F60F), and the RS010L and RS020N run on E01. On our data sheets, the RS013N lists F60, and the RS030N, RS050N and RS080N list E02. Buy the arm with the controller shown on the listing, and check the cables and I/O against your line. Our post on robot I/O is a good place to start.
