The FANUC M-10 and M-16 are six axis robots in the 10 kg to 20 kg payload range. The M-16 robots we see are older units on RJ3 and R-30iA controllers. The M-10iA is the newer family, and ours run on the R-30iB and R-30iB Plus. We stock both lines on our floor in Imlay City, Michigan.
Where These Robots Work
Both families sit in the light to mid payload class, so they get used for a wide spread of jobs. The M-10iA is a common pick for small part robotic assembly, robotic dispensing and loading small machines. Our M-10iA/12S listing names machine loading, which puts it in the same group as other machine tending robots we carry.
The M-16 put in years of material handling work and still does well moving parts between stations. If your job is parts transfer on an older line that already runs M-16 robots, a matching used arm is the simplest replacement to plan around. You can compare both families against the rest of the line in our FANUC payload and reach quick reference, or browse every arm on our used FANUC robots page.
The M-10iA Models
M-10iA/12. The M-10iA/12 carries 12 kg with 1,420 mm of reach. The one we have is part of a complete 2017 robot cell on an R-30iB Plus, so it comes with more than just the arm.
M-10iA/12S. The short arm version. The M-10iA/12S keeps the 12 kg payload but cuts reach to 1,098 mm. That makes it a good fit for a tight cell where a longer arm would just get in the way. Ours is a 2016 robot on the R-30iB.
M-10iA/10MS. The M-10iA/10MS carries 10 kg with 1,101 mm of reach. Ours is a 2019 unit on the R-30iB Plus, the newest controller in this group.
If you want to see where the line went next, the M-10iD/10L data sheet shows 10 kg with 1,636 mm of reach.
The M-16 Models
M-16i. The M-16i carries 16 kg with 1,605 mm of reach on the RJ3 controller. Ours is a 2001 robot.
M-16iL. The long arm version. The M-16iL trades payload for reach: 10 kg at 1,813 mm. We have 2001 and 2002 units on RJ3.
M-16iAL. We have a 2002 M-16iAL on RJ3. There is no data sheet for it on our blog, so check the listing for its details.
M-16iB/20. The M-16iB/20 carries 20 kg with 1,667 mm of reach. Ours are 2006 robots on the R-30iA.
On paper the M-16iB/20 and the Arc Mate 120iB both list 20 kg and 1,667 mm. If you run arc welders, our FANUC Arc Mate series guide covers that side of the family.
What to Check Before You Buy
- Controller generation. These robots span four controllers. The R-J3 controller runs our M-16i, M-16iL and M-16iAL, all 2001 and 2002 robots. The M-16iB/20 runs the R-30iA controller, and the M-10iA robots run the R-30iB or R-30iB Plus. Our FANUC controllers guide lays out the differences.
- Part plus tooling. Add the gripper weight to the heaviest part. A 10 kg arm with a 3 kg gripper has 7 kg left for the part.
- Cables and pendant. Ask what comes with the robot, and check cable length against your layout. Our guide to robot cable sets explains how to match them.
- Spares for older arms. If you are buying an RJ3 era M-16, think about spares now. Our FANUC robot parts stock includes servo motors and amplifiers, and our post on identifying the right FANUC servo motor helps you match part numbers.
- Freight. Robots leave our dock FOB Imlay City, Michigan, on freight the buyer arranges.
