The FANUC M-710iC is FANUC's medium payload robot line, sitting between the M-20 and the heavier R-1000 and R-2000 arms. The models we stock run from 20 kg on the long arm M-710iC/20L up to 70 kg on the /70 and /70T. We have the M-710iC/20L, /45M, /50, /70 and /70T on our floor in Imlay City, Michigan.
Where the M-710iC Works
The M-710iC is a handling robot first. It carries parts that are too heavy for an LR Mate or an M-20 but do not need a 165 kg arm: brake rotors, gear blanks, small castings, loaded fixtures. That puts it on a lot of material handling jobs and machine tending cells, loading lathes, machining centers and presses.
Our listings for the M-710iC/50 name machine loading, cutting and foundry work in their application lists. The /70 listings name packaging, the /70T names injection molding, and the /20L names deburring. For finishing jobs, our post on robotic material removal covers that kind of work, and our post on plasma cutting robots covers torch work.
Everything we have across the FANUC line is on our used FANUC robots page, and units that never went into production are on our never used FANUC robots page.
The M-710iC Models
M-710iC/20L. The long arm. Per the M-710iC/20L data sheet it carries 20 kg with 3,110 mm of reach. That is about a meter more reach than the /50, so it goes where the robot has to stretch: across a conveyor, deep into a large machine, or over a fixture from a stand. The one we have is never used, on an R-30iB Plus controller.
M-710iC/45M. The M-710iC/45M data sheet lists 45 kg with 2,606 mm of reach. It is the middle ground of the group: more payload than the /20L and more reach than the /50. Ours runs on R-30iB Plus.
M-710iC/50. The M-710iC/50 data sheet gives 50 kg of payload, 2,050 mm of reach, 0.07 mm repeatability and an arm weight of about 560 kg. We have them on R-30iB controllers from 2013 and 2016.
M-710iC/70. Same 2,050 mm reach, 0.07 mm repeatability and 560 kg arm weight as the /50 on the M-710iC/70 data sheet, rated for 70 kg. If your part and gripper run close to 50 kg, the /70 gives you headroom at the same reach. Ours are 2013 units on R-30iA.
M-710iC/70T. Rated for 70 kg on the M-710iC/70T data sheet. The T is a different arm build from the floor mount /70, so check the data sheet for its work envelope and mounting before you plan a cell around it. Ours is a 2008 unit on R-30iA.
Earlier Generations
Before the iC came the M-710i and the M-710iB. The M-710i carried 45 kg with 1,706 mm of reach and ran on the RJ3 controller. The M-710iB/70 carried 70 kg with 1,893 mm. If you are replacing one of those in an existing cell, the iC gives you more reach in the same payload class. Check that the mounting, cables and programs will carry over before you count on a straight swap.
Controllers
Our M-710iC stock spans three controller generations. The /70 and /70T run on the R-30iA controller. The /50 runs on the R-30iB controller. The /20L and /45M run on the R-30iB Plus controller. Newer controllers run newer software and tie in more easily with newer equipment. Our guide to FANUC robot controllers walks through the differences.
What to Check Before You Buy
- Payload with tooling. Rated payload has to cover the part plus the gripper. A 40 kg part on a 15 kg gripper is already past the /50. Our FANUC payload and reach chart helps you compare.
- Reach to the work. Measure from where the base will sit to the farthest point the wrist has to reach. If one robot has to serve several machines in a row, look at a seventh axis track.
- Cables and pendant. Confirm the teach pendant and cables come with the robot and that cable length suits your layout. See robot cable sets.
- Spare parts. Servo motors, amplifiers and cable sets are in our FANUC robot parts inventory.
- Freight. The /50 and /70 arms weigh about 560 kg before the controller. Shipping is FOB Imlay City, Michigan, with the buyer booking the truck.
If the M-710 Is Not Quite Right
If 70 kg is not enough, the next step up is the R-1000iA/80F at 80 kg and 2,230 mm, then the R-2000 line covered in our FANUC R-2000 series guide. If your parts are lighter, the M-20iA/35M carries 35 kg with 1,813 mm of reach. Our used FANUC robot buyer's guide covers the full range.
